BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra today emphasized her government’s unwavering commitment to combating drug trafficking, following the seizure of nearly 2.4 tons of crystal methamphetamine (“ice”) destined for export. The operation, which authorities valued at over 3 billion baht on the international market, was conducted by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) in coordination with the Royal Thai Navy and the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB).
Speaking at a press conference at the Ministry of Justice, Paetongtarn hailed the joint operation as a strong example of integrated law enforcement and credited both public tip-offs and the coordinated actions of multiple agencies for the successful bust. The drugs were intercepted while being transported via a tour boat through Thai waters off the coast of Pak Nam Prasae, Klaeng District, Rayong province.
The prime minister thanked all personnel involved and reiterated that narcotics remain one of Thailand’s top national security concerns. She warned that allowing a single large shipment to slip through could have grave consequences for society and the economy.
“This is not just a single case — it’s a powerful symbol of Thailand’s growing strength in stopping transnational drug syndicates,” Paetongtarn said. She confirmed that security agencies, particularly DSI, are now pursuing leads on the broader network behind the operation and will update the public once more details are confirmed.
“Drugs are a global problem, not just a Thai one,” she added. “But with the skill and cooperation of our people, we can make Thailand safer and more secure for all.” (PRD)
