Thailand’s police say investigation into leaked Hun Sen audio will proceed based on evidence — summoning the PM is not ruled out, depending on probe progress.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand’s National Police Chief, Pol. Gen. Kitrat Phanphet, stated that the investigation into the controversial leaked audio clip involving Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen is ongoing and that any potential questioning of the Thai Prime Minister would depend on the discretion of investigators and the evidence gathered.

The case originated from a complaint filed by former Thai police chief and politician Seripisut Temiyavet, accusing Hun Sen of violating Thai law. Additionally, a citizens’ group had previously petitioned police to take legal action, citing national security concerns. While stressing that two separate incidents are under review, Gen. Kitrat affirmed that the Royal Thai Police is proceeding in a straightforward, impartial manner, regardless of international implications.

Whether Hun Sen will face charges depends on available evidence. The police are currently focused on questioning the complainants, and any further action, including possibly summoning the Prime Minister or others mentioned in the clip, will follow due investigative procedures. Gen. Kitrat emphasized that the police remain committed to their duties, stating, “Bravery is taught to us from the beginning. We act without fear or favor.”

The National Police Chief noted that the Prime Minister must be informed of the investigation in his capacity as the police’s superior officer. (TNA)
