BANGKOK, Oct 15 — Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha intends to discuss solutions to trade barriers during his participation at the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) scheduled in Milan, Italy, from today through Saturday.

Before leaving for Milan, Gen Prayut said that he would raise issues concerning export and trade barriers as countries were increasingly competing with one another. He said that all countries faced the problem of trade barriers and Thailand would have to improve its products to raise their demands in global markets.

“In my trip to attend the Asia-Europe Meeting I will have chances to discuss farm product issues…. I will have bilateral talks with four to five countries depending on available time. … We are ready to talk with all countries especially in informal discussions,” Gen Prayut said.

The prime minister also said that violence in the far South would not obstruct trade and investment in Thailand as the problem was contained in the southern border provinces.

He added that he would find opportunities to talk with automotive tire manufacturers to promote Thai rubber in a bid to shore up local rubber prices.
