Bangkok, 11 August 2019  – People in areas waiting for rain have to be prepared for flash floods following any rainfall. Those who live in communities where there are shallow ditches and canals or waterway obstructions are being asked to dredge the ditches and canals in the community themselves if they can, because in some areas, there are not enough government officers to be dispatched to the problem areas. The Prime Minister is therefore asking everyone and every community to join forces as volunteers as a tribute to the Queen Mother and His Majesty the King.

Government Spokesman Narumon Pinyosinwat disclosed today that Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha had called on volunteers, government officials and the private sector in every province to conduct volunteer missions by using machinery to help clear the waterways, dredge ditches and canals and remove waterway obstructions to accommodate rainfall when it comes. They are being asked to use their own machines and bring food for the volunteers because the procurement of new machines has to go through a lengthy budgetary process.

The government is therefore inviting everyone to join forces as volunteers to solve the problems as a tribute to the Queen Mother and His Majesty the King.
