Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul reviews restoration work near Vajira Hospital, confirming pedestrian safety while directing authorities to maintain strict monitoring and prepare for full road reopening.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul conducted a late-night inspection of Samsen Road on October 20 to assess repair work following recent road subsidence near Vajira Hospital in Dusit district. Joined by engineers and officials from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), the Premier reviewed ongoing restoration plans and preparations to demolish the adjacent Samsen Police Station building, which requires special care due to its structural condition.

Anutin confirmed that the subsided area is now stable and safe for pedestrians, however stressed that the road must remain closed to vehicles until full safety can be guaranteed. He directed all agencies involved to maintain strict safety standards, monitor nearby buildings for any movement, and prepare a detailed plan before reopening the road to traffic.

Officials reported that more than 1,700 cubic meters of crushed stone have been used to fill and compact the affected area. Water has been applied to control dust and assist with soil settling, and test drilling confirmed groundwater levels remain above the old pipe structure.

The next step includes demolition of the police station’s floor structure and resurfacing of the road to restore full access to Vajira Hospital. Authorities will continue monitoring the area closely throughout the process to ensure public safety. (NNT)
