BANGKOK, Thailand – Acting Prime Minister and Interior Minister Phumtham Wechayachai addressed ongoing issues at the Thai-Cambodian border, particularly concerning the request from evacuation centers to return facilities, including schools, to their normal use and to resume classes.
Acting PM Phumtham stressed that provincial governors, who serve as the primary coordinators of government operations in their regions, must take full responsibility for assessing safety conditions in collaboration with the military and other agencies. He urged governors to ensure they meet their duties effectively, warning that any failure to do so would reflect poorly on their ability to represent the government.
The Acting PM also mentioned the meeting of the Thai-Cambodian General Border Committee (GBC). He noted that the National Security Council (NSC) would convene shortly, and there might be a small Cabinet meeting to review inputs from the Thai GBC secretariat.
Addressing concerns over potential disruptions to the GBC meeting, particularly regarding the Cambodian side needing approval from Phnom Penh before making decisions, Mr. Phumtham stated he could not offer a definitive comment, as he was not present at the session.
