Mr. Lertchai Wangtrakuldee, Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Phuket Office said the Vegetarian Festival of Phuket is a unique and distinct tradition that reflects the unity and solidarity of the local people and visitors who have come to Phuket during this time.

Locals and foreign tourists participate in the annual Vegetarian Festival in Phuket, which runs from October 14 to 23.

During this festival, people wear white clothing as they pay homage to deities at various shrines and take commemorative photographs. The city of Phuket, particularly important landmarks such as the clock tower and the Charter Bank intersection, is beautifully decorated, serving as popular check-in points and photo spots.

Additionally, this festival has seen a surge in tourism, with a substantial number of travelers arriving in the area. Accommodation reservations are not limited to beachfront hotels but have extended to the city area as well.

With an estimated 650,000 visitors during this 9-day period, it is expected that this will generate revenue of no less than 9 billion baht. Mr. Lertchai also pointed out that besides Thai and foreign tourists, media outlets from various countries in Europe and Asia have collaborated with TAT to document and promote the festival.

This is expected to boost the local economy further. Room bookings continue to rise until February next  year, not only in Phuket but in other Andaman provinces as well, he said. (TNA)
