Governor Nirat Pongsitthaworn has directed all agencies to immediately clear drains and waterways across Phuket as seasonal rains begin, deploying maintenance teams to prevent flooding, reduce road disruptions, and keep the island fully operational for residents and tourists.

PHUKET, Thailand – Phuket Governor Nirat Pongsitthaworn has issued an urgent directive to all provincial agencies and local administrative organizations to clear drainage systems immediately as the first seasonal rain hits the island.

The Governor emphasized a “Zero Water Retention” policy to protect the province’s image as a world-class tourist destination, ensuring road surfaces remain clear to prevent travel disruptions for residents and visitors.

The order covers the Department of Highways, the Department of Rural Roads, the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO), and all local municipalities. Maintenance teams have been deployed to inspect and clear obstructions from grates, manholes, and drainage channels on all major routes.

The governor stressed that the infrastructure must be in peak condition to handle immediate runoff without waiting to drain.

Agencies have begun mobilizing personnel to clean high-risk, low-lying areas across the island. By proactively managing the drainage network during this seasonal transition, the province aims to reduce road accidents and ensure Phuket remains ready to welcome tourists regardless of changing weather conditions.
