Emergency crews used excavators to clear mud and debris in Patong on October 26 after continuous heavy rain triggered flash floods and mudslides, while three temporary shelters opened for affected residents.

PHUKET, Thailand – Phuket authorities have deployed emergency personnel and heavy machinery to respond to flash floods and mudslides in Patong following continuous heavy rainfall, while opening temporary shelters and issuing public warnings issued via the Cell Broadcast system. On October 26, 2026, Phuket Governor Chotnarin Kerdsom directed Deputy Governors Suwit Phansangiam and Romdon Haji-Awae, together with local and disaster prevention officials, to oversee operations in Soi Nanai 5 and Soi Nanai 8, Kathu District.

Mudslides from nearby hills blocked Soi Nanai 5, rendering the road impassable, while runoff continued to affect lower-lying areas. Officials used excavators to remove debris, clear drainage channels, and restore access. Emergency teams helped residents relocate belongings, remove mud and debris, and clean affected areas.

Patong Municipality established three temporary shelters at Patong Municipality, Wat Suwan Khiri Wong School, and Patong Bay Hill Hotel. At 8:30 a.m., the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) issued Cell Broadcast alerts warning residents of potential flash floods, landslides, overflowing waterways, and flooding in low-lying areas.

Residents were advised to move belongings to higher ground, avoid electrical hazards, assist vulnerable individuals, and monitor official announcements. Authorities also advised motorists to avoid Soi Nanai 5 and nearby high-risk areas during ongoing rainfall. Residents needing assistance can contact Patong Municipality’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Division at 076-342600, available 24 hours, or the DDPM emergency hotline at 1784. (NNT)
