PHAYAO, Thailand – A magnitude 2.4 earthquake struck Phayao province on Friday afternoon, with residents in several areas reporting brief tremors, while authorities confirmed there were no reports of injuries or damage. The Department of Mineral Resources’ Geological Disaster Operations Centre reported that the earthquake occurred at 3:05 p.m. on July 10, at a depth of 1 kilometre beneath Sawang Arom Subdistrict, Dok Kham Tai District. Officials said the tremor was caused by movement along the Phayao Fault, a normal fault line running in a near north-south direction with a slight northwest alignment. Residents in Dok Kham Tai and Sawang Arom districts reported feeling the shaking for a short period before the situation returned to normal.

Phayao Governor Orn-apa Lohweera instructed the provincial disaster prevention and mitigation office to coordinate with local authorities and relevant agencies to inspect affected areas, monitor the situation and ensure public safety. Initial inspections found no damage to homes, government buildings, roads, bridges or public utilities, and no injuries were reported. Authorities urged residents not to panic but to remain alert, follow safety procedures, check the condition of buildings after any tremors, and report any damage to local officials immediately.
