ROI ET, Thailand – Education Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong presided over the opening ceremony of the 2026 Phanom Phrai Bun Bang Fai Rocket Festival in Roi Et Province on May 31, 2026, to help preserve and promote Northeastern cultural heritage. The opening ceremony, held in front of the Phanom Phrai District Public Health Office, was attended by Roi Et Governor Chatchawan Benjasiriwong, senior Ministry of Education officials, members of parliament, local administrators, representatives from government and the private sector, and over 1,000 residents. Attendees participated in the traditional gong-striking ceremony and enjoyed rocket processions, cultural performances, dance competitions, and displays of decorated rockets.

The Phanom Phrai Bun Bang Fai Rocket Festival is rooted in local faith and devotion to Phra Maha That Wat Klang Udomwet, a revered religious landmark and spiritual symbol of the district. In addition to the traditional belief in seeking favorable rainfall, the festival is an act of worship and gratitude to the sacred relic shrine, with many participants fulfilling vows through ceremonial rocket offerings. The festival takes place from May 30 to June 1, 2026, through collaboration among Phanom Phrai Municipality, the Phanom Phrai District Cultural Council, and local partners. The event aims to preserve a longstanding cultural tradition that reflects the beliefs and way of life of local communities, while also stimulating tourism and economic activity in Phanom Phrai District and Roi Et Province.
