Pheu Thai Party leader Paetongtarn Shinawatra has been named as an advisory board member for Thailand’s inaugural national defense curriculum tailored for young executives, the mini-NDC course.

Sponsored by the National Defense College, the program seeks to enhance awareness about national security issues among mid-level military personnel, civil servants, business figures, and cultural influencers, including social media personalities and actors. The course represents a strategic move by the military to engage younger professionals in national security dialogues, diverging from its traditional focus on more senior executives.

Paetongtarn, who is also participating in the course, was present at the orientation event held on Friday (Mar 22). The advisory board, comprising Paetongtarn, Issara Sereewatthanawut from King Prajadhipok’s Institute, and Khanapoj Joemrith, will guide the course’s president to ensure the smooth execution of the program.

The course, running from April to September, attracted 500 applicants, with 150, including Paetongtarn, being selected. It stands out for its diverse intake, consisting of 50 military and police officers and 100 civilians from various sectors, highlighting a broad interest in national defense and leadership skills among Thailand’s younger generations.

Paetongtarn expressed her enthusiasm for the course, noting her longstanding interest in the traditional NDC program and the opportunity this new offering presents for making valuable connections, which will be particularly beneficial for her political career. (NNT)
