Over 30 migrants arrested in Kanchanaburi province near Thai-Myanmar border

An initial investigation found that the group was from the Bago and Dawei townships of Myanmar’s Bago and Tanintharyi regions, respectively, and had paid 15,000-20,000 baht each to brokers in their country for jobs in SamutSakhon, NakhonPathom and Bangkok.

Authorities apprehended 33 migrants for illegal entry near the Thai-Myanmar border in Kanchanaburi province on Saturday (15 Jan).

According to officials, a patrol from the Surasee Task Force discovered an initial group of 19 men and 12 women hiding in the bushes near NongPlaDuk village in SaiYok district at around 2:30 PM.

A half-hour later, two women were found by another patrol in Song Karia village of SangkhlaBuri district.



An initial investigation found that the group was from the Bago and Dawei townships of Myanmar’s Bago and Tanintharyi regions, respectively, and had paid 15,000-20,000 baht each to brokers in their country for jobs in SamutSakhon, NakhonPathom and Bangkok.

The 33 were due to be deported back to Myanmar after being processed by local law enforcement in SaiYok and SangkhlaBuri. (NNT)
