BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has reported a sharp rise in New Year travel, with more than 1.5 million visitors recorded at natural attractions nationwide during the extended holiday period. Deputy Prime Minister and Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin said the ministry mobilized personnel nationwide to support tourism while maintaining safety and environmental protection.

Services were provided at sites under the ministry’s supervision from December 31, 2025, to January 4, 2026, supporting public travel and local economies during the holiday. Officials said the strong turnout created a lively atmosphere while allowing families to enjoy outdoor destinations across Thailand.

More than 1.2 million visitors entered national parks during the period, with additional visits recorded at recreation forests, zoos, fossil museums, and botanical gardens. The most visited national parks were Khao Yai, Khlong Lan, Doi Inthanon, Phu Hin Rong Kla, and Hat Noppharat Thara–Mu Ko Phi Phi.

The ministry also boosted environmental protection efforts by promoting waste reduction at tourist sites. Visitors were encouraged to take their waste home or dispose of it at designated sorting points, while bans on single-use plastics and foam containers remained in effect in national parks. The Zero Food Waste policy was also advanced through guidance on reducing food waste and using reusable containers.

The ministry said tourist safety measures will continue to be implemented, alongside strict enforcement of waste management rules. Visitors were reminded to comply with site regulations and remove all items brought into natural areas to help preserve Thailand’s natural attractions for future generations. (NNT)
