Old bomb unearthed at Red Line construction site


BANGKOK, 2 June 2014  – Workers at a construction site for the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Red Line in Bang Sue reported discovering a bomb.

Noppawong Railway Police station investigator Pol Lt Prakartchai Kaewkar said the suspected bomb was discovered at the site while workers were using a backhoe to dig up the ground. The site is where the soon-to-be new Bang Sue station on the Red Line is located.

Police identified the explosive as a model GT500 bomb and said the old bomb appeared to be a dud.

The area has nonetheless been sealed off and Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams have been called in to safely remove the bomb.
