BANGKOK, 26 April 2015 – The National Reform Council will discuss the reform of the country’s police on Tuesday.

According to NRC spokesman Wanchai Sornsiri, the reform council will convene a session on Tuesday, April 28, to review the study on the police overhaul, which the committee on legal and justice reform has vetted.

Among key issues in the study is the restructuring of the national police bureau, which is aimed at preventing political interference, Mr. Wanchai said.

He added that, under the draft charter, future investigation will be handled by an independent agency which does not report to the national police bureau.

The NRC spokesman went on to say that the national police bureau should now start allocating personnel, equipment and budget to support the new team of investigators, so that they will be able to perform their duties independently.
