BANGKOK, Thailand – The government has clarified that revised residential electricity rates approved by the National Energy Policy Council will automatically apply to all households nationwide, with no registration, application, or mobile app required. Deputy Government Spokesperson Lalida Persvivatana said the measure is separate from the electricity subsidy for State Welfare Cardholders, which continues to require registration with the relevant electricity authority. The Provincial Electricity Authority and the Metropolitan Electricity Authority are implementing the new tariff structure under the supervision of the Ministry of Interior. The revised rates will apply to electricity consumed from August 2026 and will first appear on bills issued in September.
Under the new structure, households will pay no more than three baht per unit for the first 200 units of electricity used, while consumption beyond 200 units will continue at the current rate. The residential tariff will also be extended to temporary electricity meters. Lalida said eligible State Welfare Cardholders will continue to receive electricity assistance of up to 315 baht per household each month in addition to the revised residential tariff. Registration with the relevant electricity authority is required between July 20 and September 30, 2026, to receive the subsidy. The government also confirmed that the cost of public electricity services, estimated at 0.09 baht per unit, will be removed from household electricity bills under the council’s resolution.
