BANGKOK, 3 August 2015 – The NLA President has revealed that the government is obligated to hold general elections immediately after constitution passes referendum, while the DPM has assigned the NLA to legislate additional anti human trafficking laws.

The President of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) Pornpech Wichitcholchai revealed that the Deputy Prime Minister for legal affairs, Wissanu Krea-ngam, has ordered the NLA to issue important laws on human trafficking in 4-5 acts. The new laws will cover the elimination of human trafficking activities.

He has said that the NLA will closely follow the process of imposing these laws, issue an immediate warning if any are violated, and provide suggestions to the government. The NLA will also appoint the government to translate all laws, which had been officially announced at the government gazette, into English and to seek the United States’ consideration, in an attempt to solve human trafficking issues.

The election process are set to commence after the constitution has been approved in a public referendum.
