NACC unveils assets of former ministers in most recent cabinet

BANGKOK, 19 July 2014 – The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has released the latest report on the assets of former cabinet ministers and senators who have recently been relieved of duty, with former deputy prime minister Phongthep Thepkanchana found to be the most wealthy of the former cabinet ministers.

Mr. Phonthep Thepkanchana topped the list of the most wealthy former cabinet minister, with assets worth 2.92 billion baht. The runners up include Dr. Pradit Sinthawanarong, the former minister of public health, and Mr. Phongsak Raktaphongphaisal, the former minister of energy.

The poorest former ministers in the most recent cabinet included Mr. Thanusak Lek-uthai, the former deputy minister of finance, who only had 1.2 million baht in his savings accounts; Mr. Phong Chiwanan, the former deputy minister of transport, who had 11 million baht worth of assets; and Mr. Prasert Bunchaisuk, the former minister of industry, who had 12 million baht worth of assets.

Meanwhile, Ms. Wilada Inchat, the former senator for Sisaket, was found to be the wealthiest of all the former senators in the most recent senate assembly. She had around 1.4 billion baht of assets, according to the NACC.
