Mule account owner arrested in fraud case linked to teen’s suicide

A Thai woman, hired by scammers to open a mule bank account was arrested in a fraud case linked to the suicide of a 15-year-old boy in Nonthaburi.

The woman, identified only as Ms. Napaporn,33 was arrested in Ayutthaya province on a warrant, issued by the Nonthaburi Provincial Court. She was accused of being an accomplice to dupe people and to put false information into the computer system for a fraudulent scheme. Her mobile phone was seized as a case exhibit.



The boy committed suicide by hanging himself after being scammed by the cybercriminal who had deceived him to transfer the money worth 15,000 baht in total as an investment to earn a profit by purchasing goods for resale.



He withdrew money from his patents’ accounts and transferred to Napaporn’ account as demanded by the scammer. The money was then transferred to other accounts of three more suspects.

The woman confessed to being hired to open two accounts from a Facebook page. The police detain her for questioning to track down other suspects. (TNA)
