The Ministry of Culture has invited the public to experience Tangjit Khit Khlang (The Flamboyant Lovers), a commemorative sung drama based on a royal literary work by His Majesty King Vajiravudh (King Rama VI), staged at Chulalongkorn University to celebrate key royal anniversaries and showcase Thailand’s theatrical heritage.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Culture has invited the public to attend a commemorative sung drama based on a royal literary work by His Majesty King Vajiravudh (King Rama VI), the Great King, titled Tangjit Khit Khlang (The Flamboyant Lovers). The premiere was held recently at the Sodsai Pantoomkomol Centre for Dramatic Arts, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University.

Permanent Secretary for Culture Prasop Riangngoen attended the event with senior officials from the Ministry of Culture and its affiliated agencies. The President of Chulalongkorn University, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, faculty members, and students welcomed the delegation and joined the viewing.

The production is a collaboration between the Department of Dramatic Arts, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University, and the Ministry of Culture, through the Office of the Permanent Secretary, the Department of Cultural Promotion, and the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture. The performance marks several royal commemorations, including the centenary of the passing of His Majesty King Vajiravudh, the centenary of the birth of Her Royal Highness Princess Bejaratana Rajasuda Sirisobhabannavadi, the centenary of the establishment of Her Majesty Queen Suvadhana, and the 70th birthday anniversary of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on April 2, 2025. It also forms part of the Faculty of Arts’ annual stage production.

Originally composed in 1913 as Chuenjai Mai Samak, the work was revised by His Majesty King Vajiravudh into Tangjit Khit Khlang in 1919. The play was conceived as a satirical sung drama that parodied the popular theatrical genre of its time. The current production reflects His Majesty’s literary brilliance and serves as a living record of the historical development of Thai theatrical arts, which were then influenced by Western theatre and moving toward new forms of creative expression.

Performances run from now through January 25, 2026, at the Sodsai Pantoomkomol Center for Dramatic Arts, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University. Tickets can be purchased at https://www.ticketmelon.com/th/dramaartschula/The-Flamboyant-Lovers/ (NNT)
