BANGKOK, Thailand – Education Minister Narumon Pinyosinwat has ordered the Teachers’ Council of Thailand to take immediate disciplinary action against a teacher who struck a Grade 1 student with a metal ruler after the child secretly took some snacks. Minister Narumon emphasized that teachers are meant to nurture and guide students, not harm them.
Associate Professor Amalawan Weerathammo, Secretary-General of the Teachers’ Council, confirmed that the incident occurred on October 3 at Mae Chang School in Na Sak Subdistrict, Mae Mo District, Lampang Province. The teacher involved is a licensed assistant teacher under Lampang Primary Educational Service Area Office 1, holding a professional teaching license valid from May 7, 2023, to May 6, 2028.
The Teachers’ Council has initiated a review of the teacher’s professional conduct under the 2025 regulations on professional ethics violations. The teacher’s license may be temporarily suspended while the council considers the case. If the school or relevant authorities recommend termination, the teacher can be removed immediately without waiting for the full investigation.
Associate Professor Amalawan stated that the council’s Professional Standards Committee will determine the severity of the ethical violation and take further action accordingly.
