Malaysian basketball drama Padu closes Bangkok film series on October 31

Malaysian sports drama “Padu” follows the women’s national basketball team as players from diverse backgrounds unite through perseverance and teamwork.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Malaysian sports drama “Padu,” inspired by the achievements of the country’s women’s national basketball team, will close the 2026 Contemporary World Film Series at TK Park in Bangkok on October 31. The film, presented in collaboration with the Embassy of Malaysia in Bangkok, explores perseverance, diversity, and teamwork both on and off the court.

Directed by Faisal Ishak, the 1-hour, 37-minute film follows Malaysia’s women’s national basketball team, which has won 13 gold medals in 20 Southeast Asian Games appearances since 1977. The story follows players from different communities, cultures, and social backgrounds as they overcome personal challenges and learn to work as a unified team.


Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand H.E. Datuk Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah will introduce the film before the screening, followed by Malaysian refreshments. “Padu” will screen at 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, at TK Park, 8th Floor, CentralWorld, Dazzle Zone above TOPS Food Hall, Ratchadamri Road, Bangkok.
