More than 50 vendors have joined the new weekly agricultural market at Mae Klong Dam, connecting farmers directly with consumers and promoting certified, high-quality produce at fair prices.

KANCHANABURI, Thailand – A new agricultural market has opened at Mae Klong Dam in Kanchanaburi province, giving farmers direct access to consumers and expanding sales channels for local produce. Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Piyarat Tiyapairat presided over the launch of the “Safe Agricultural Products Market: Supporting Farmers @ Mae Klong Dam.”

The market features more than 50 vendors, including farmers, water user groups, and community enterprises offering fresh and processed goods. Products that meet standards such as GAP, GMP, and organic certification are sold directly to buyers, helping reduce costs and increase farmers’ income.

Organizers said the market was developed through coordination among agencies under the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and local partners to address rising production costs and improve farmers’ returns. The setup also allows consumers to access certified agricultural products at fair prices.

Held every Tuesday, officials expect the market to develop into a regular outlet for local goods and a central distribution point, supporting economic activity at the community level. (NNT)
