BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Justice has launched a nationwide project to produce black mourning ribbons for public distribution during the mourning period for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother. The initiative, beginning today (Oct 30), involves collaboration between correctional officers and inmates across prisons and correctional institutions nationwide.

Justice Minister Pol Lt Gen Rutthaphon Naowarat said the project serves as an expression of loyalty and remembrance for Her Majesty’s lifelong devotion to the Thai people. The campaign highlights the Department of Corrections’ long-standing connection to the Royal Family and its continued support of royal guidance through rehabilitation-based programs.

Inmates are contributing to the production of ribbons, supporting the agency’s structured activities that encourage responsibility and participation in national events. Correctional facilities have been instructed to coordinate local distribution, with the ribbons provided free of charge as a symbol of mourning.

The public can request these black ribbons at designated distribution areas located at the entrances of prisons and correctional institutions nationwide. These services will remain available throughout the mourning period. (NNT)
