BANGKOK, 23 June 2015 – Interior Minister Anupong Paochinda has expedited assistance measures for people in the drought affected areas to ensure enough water for public demand. Drilling new groundwater wells is one prospective measure for areas facing critical water shortage.

The Minister has assigned all local authorities to provide nationwide data of current water situation and prediction of future needs of water. They should draw up additional response plan in case of water crisis. All assistance measures will be finalized at the economic cabinet meeting on Wednesday 24 June.

Meanwhile, provincial governors have been ordered to clarify actual situation of water in particular areas after water controversies occurred in some areas.
