BANGKOK, 6 May 2013 The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) will quickly move to terminate websites whose contents are deemed to be defaming the Prime Minister or any individuals.

ICT Minister Gp.Capt. Anudith Nakornthap said his ministry is responsible for monitoring contents and posts on websites. If defamatory comments are found, the ICT Ministry will immediately contact the site owners to delete such comments.

He said his ministry has the authority to block any websites that are specifically created to defame others or fail to remove defaming comments posted on the site.

According to the ICT Minister, those who post vulgar, insulting or defamatory comments on social networking websites are criminally punishable for defamation under Section 326 of the Criminal Code. The penalty is imprisonment for a term of not exceeding one year or a fine of not exceeding 20,000 baht, or both.
