KHON KAEN, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn visited Khon Kaen on August 28, 2026, to review progress on transport network improvements and accident prevention measures along Highway 2440 in Nong Song Hong District. The inspection focused on resolving traffic issues and improving road safety standards. Highway 2440 is a key route connecting Phutthaisong District in Buri Ram with Nong Song Hong and Phon Districts in Khon Kaen, and extends to Nakhon Ratchasima. The highway currently carries over 6,239 vehicles daily, as traffic volumes are expected to rise due to dense communities along the route.
To reduce congestion and accident risks, a 35-million-baht infrastructure project has begun. The highway will be expanded from four to six lanes between kilometers 21+900 and 22+520. Upgrades also include a central median, sidewalks, and improved drainage systems. The project will also enhance safety at major junctions and install new traffic signals. These improvements aim to increase travel efficiency, reduce bottlenecks, and ensure public safety in high-risk areas. (NNT)
