BANGKOK, Dec 7 – The ruling Pheu Thai Party agreed yesterday to set up a public forum to find resolutions for Thailand, but insisted that the prime minister would neither resign nor dissolve the House.

Pheu Thai leader Charupong Ruangsuwan, who is also the interior minister, said the party strongly supported Ms Yingluck Shinawatra as Thailand’s prime minister and praised her for handling the political turmoil without resorting to violence.

Pheu Thai party members held a special meeting yesterday to discuss the month-long political crisis and said they would forward to the prime minister and the Cabinet their agreement on a public forum to be participated by all segments of Thai society.

Pheu Thai spokesman Prompong Nopparit said party members rejected the protesters’ demand for a people’s council and an interim prime minister under the stipulation of Section 7 of the Constitution, as proposed by protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban.

Mr Prompong said the party has requested an investigation into the financial support for the demonstrations and find out the major financiers in order to take stern legal action against them.

Pichit Cheunban, Pheu Thai’s legal adviser, said the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has been involved in various protest-related activities in violation of the Internal Security Act.

Security authorities had sent written warnings to the BMA while Pheu Thai Party will collect evidence to take action against it, he said.

The BMA is under the leadership of governor Sukhumbhand Paripatra, a member of the opposition Democrat Party.
