BANGKOK, 26 April 2015 – Somchai Sajjaponge has resigned as chairman of the board of the Government Lottery Office after nine months.

Mr. Somchai has submitted his resignation letter to Permanent-Secretary of Finance Ministry Rangsan Siworasat and has informed Deputy PM M.R. Pridiyathorn Devakula, Finance Minister Sommai Pasee and Deputy Minister of Finance Wisudhi Srisuphan of his decision.

Mr. Somchai ascribed his decision to resign to his inability to solve the perennial problems of overpriced lottery tickets. Owing to this, he feels it’s best for him to resign, paving the way for others to replace him. He added that he also wanted to focus more on his career as the Customs Department’s Director-General.

Finance Ministry Permanent-Secretary Rangsan said he would discuss the appointment of a new chairman of the GLO board with the Finance Minister. Mr. Somchai’s resignation will be effective on April 27.
