NARATHIWAT, 21 July 2014  – Military and police officers have beefed up security measures during the last days of Ramadan. However, insurgents managed to stage four separate bomb attacks within the area.

Security forces along with an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team have gone down to inspect the four sites of attack in Ra-Ngae District in Narathiwat province. The first two explosions took place at the front and at the back of Tan Yong Mas Railway Station.

The third bomb was planted on a roadside near an electric pole just behind the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) Tan Yong Mas branch.

The fourth grenade was found just 4 meters away from the BAAC branch. Insurgents had planted the bomb inside an empty picnic gas tank. However, the bomb malfunctioned and did not detonate. No casualties have been found for this reason.

Police believe that the aim of the blasts was to stir up the situation within the area. At this point, they are looking into CCTV camera footage in order to determine the suspects’ identities.
