Flooding subsides in 5 South provinces, 6 provinces remain afflicted

BANGKOK, 29 November 2013 The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has revealed that flooding in the South has lifted in 5 provinces; however, the provinces of Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Surat Thani, Trang and Pattani remain afflicted. 

According to Chatchai Phromloet, director-general of the department, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has told his department to collaborate with provincial authorities to quickly relieve the troubles of flood-affected people and repair damage.

Mr. Chatchai also spoke of the northeasterly monsoon intensifying over the Gulf of Thailand, and the low pressure trough from the South China Sea moving to cover the southern region of Thailand on December 2-3. Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat will experience heavy to very heavy raining as a result. Waves in the lower part of the Gulf is projected to reach 3-5 meters in height. All small vessels in Chumphon and all other provinces below should keep ashore until after December 3.

The northern, northeastern, central and eastern region will experience a 5-7 degrees Celsius drop in temperature and stronger winds until December 3. Some spots in certain North and Northeast provinces will experience temperatures below 16 degrees Celsius.
