BANGKOK, Thailand – The Office of the National Water Resources (ONWR) has issued a warning of possible waterlogging, flash floods, and river overflows in several parts of Thailand from August 29 to September 2. Weather conditions are expected to bring increased rainfall, with heavy to very heavy rain possible across upper northern Thailand, upper northeastern Thailand, and the East.
Areas under close watch include Mae Hong Son, Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Nan, Phrae, Phayao, Phetchabun, Tak, and Phitsanulok in the North; Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nakhon Phanom, Sakon Nakhon, and Roi Et in the Northeast; Kanchanaburi in the West; and Chanthaburi and Trat in the East.
ONWR also warned of rapidly rising water and possible overflows in low-lying communities along the Yuam, Kok, Nan, Moei, Yom, and Yang rivers, as well as the Khwae Noi River and Fia Stream. Residents near these waterways have been advised to closely monitor changing conditions.
Residents in flood-prone areas are urged to follow official weather and water updates, move valuables to higher ground, and prepare essential supplies and evacuation routes. Extra caution is also advised in areas receiving more than 90 millimeters of rain within 24 hours. (NNT)
