BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has launched the “Ethnic Colors of Lanna” cultural tourism campaign to promote community-based tourism and connect ethnic communities in the North with national soft power strategies. The launch ceremony took place on May 16 at Central Chaengwattana in Nonthaburi, attended by tourism officials, community networks, and media representatives.

The event, presided over by Vice Minister for Tourism and Sports Jakkaphon Tangsutthitham, highlights the cultural richness of northern provinces including Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, and Mae Hong Son. These areas are known for their nature, art, cuisine, and distinctive Lanna heritage. The campaign supports the government’s “Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year” policy by promoting creative and sustainable tourism.

Organized by the Chiang Mai Provincial Office of Tourism and Sports, the event showcases ethnic community products, handicrafts, cultural performances, and lifestyle demonstrations to generate local income by increasing interest in cultural tourism while providing tourists with authentic experiences rooted in the region’s diverse heritage.

The tourism campaign is expected to boost Thailand’s tourism economy by highlighting cultural identity and encouraging community involvement, with officials hoping it will inspire similar activities in other regions.

The government thanked all involved for their cooperation in delivering the project, expressing hope that it will create long-term benefits for local communities while supporting the country’s reputation as a top destination for cultural tourism. (NNT)
