BANGKOK, Thailand – A cautionary tale has been shared by Dr. Pracha Kanyaprasit, a specialist in neurosurgery, about the dangers of neck massages. The case involves a 54-year-old man who, after experiencing neck pain, asked his wife to give him a massage. Unfortunately, the massage caused the issue to worsen. Upon waking up the next morning, he found himself with weakened limbs and difficulty speaking.
Dr. Pracha explained that the brain is supplied by four main blood vessels. A CT scan revealed that one of the blood vessels feeding the left side of the brain had ruptured, leading to a blood clot blocking the flow of blood to the brain. This caused part of the brain to die, turning black. Since the issue went untreated for over eight hours, nothing could be done except for a procedure to expand the skull, offering a slim chance of survival.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers of neck massages, especially when done without proper knowledge. (TNA)
