DMSc Awards for outstanding medical scientists presented at 21st Academic Medical Science Meeting

BANGKOK, 19 June 2013 The Vice President of the Chulabhorn Research Institute deputized for Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol in presiding over the opening ceremony of the 21st Technical Meeting on Medical Science, held on the 16th June 2013.

On the occasion, six Department of Medical Sciences (DMSc) Awards were presented to outstanding medical scientists. The awards are divided into 3 categories, namely research and development, public health laboratory development and services, and the medical science textbook category.

For the research and development category, two pieces of research are awarded. They are “Human Monoclonal Antibodies to Neutralize All Serotypes of Dengue Viruses Using Peripheral Blood Lymphocytes from Infant Patients” which is a joint effort between the DMSc and Japan to develop Dengue Virus cures. The other winning research in this category is “The Separation of Hemoglobin using tubes” by Chiang Mai University to help traces blood diseases.

For the public health laboratory development and services category, the winning work is on “Thalassemia 1 Southeast Asia research and analysis by Relative Quantitative PCR”. The WHO Prequalification program to develop medical laboratory standards was also awarded. As for the academic textbook category the “Biology and control” and the “Atlas of Hematology for Medical Students” were awarded.
