Defense Ministry: Thailand did not trigger the fight over the Thai-Cambodian border

BANGKOK, 24 April 2011 -Ministry of Defense Spokesperson Col Thanathip Sawangsang confirms that Thailand is complying with the United Nations Charter on protecting national sovereignty and did not trigger the gunfight.

Col Thanathip has spoken via Channel 5 regarding the latest border scuffles between Thailand and Cambodia in Surin province that the Defense Ministry and the Royal Thai Army have been abiding by the UN guidelines since the fight broke off.

He denied the Thai side acted as an aggressor and only retaliated in response to the attack triggered by the opposing party. As for the rumor claiming that the Thai military had used an air force against Cambodia, Col Thanathip said it was unfounded. He added that helicopters were used near the border to move the injured away from the scene.
