Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham confirms joint Thai-Cambodian reconnaissance and troop adjustments have helped stabilize key border areas ahead of the June 14 JBC meeting.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Phumtham Wechayachai has reported progress in the Thai-Cambodian border situation, following ongoing military and diplomatic coordination between the two countries. He stated that Thai and Cambodian forces have conducted joint reconnaissance in key areas, contributing to reduced tension and improved conditions on the ground.

According to the Ministry of Defense, both sides have completed a joint survey of the border terrain and trenches, including restoration work in previously disputed zones. Adjustments to troop deployments have also been made, returning positions to those maintained during the stable period of 2024.

With the next Thai-Cambodian Joint Boundary Committee (JBC) meeting scheduled for June 14, both governments view this bilateral mechanism as a constructive channel for resolving any remaining issues. The Defense Ministry reaffirmed its support for continued peaceful engagement, while also expressing appreciation to both Thai and Cambodian military personnel for their professionalism during the recent tensions.

Phumtham also urged the public to remain cautious when sharing information about the border situation. He warned that the spread of misleading or inflammatory content could disrupt the current progress and risk renewed instability. The Ministry continues to monitor developments closely and remains in contact with all parties involved. (NNT)
