BANGKOK, 18 August 2011 – The Defense Ministry is prepared to attend the Thai-Cambodian Regional Border Committee (RBC) Meeting during 23-25 August as well as the General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting, which is to be scheduled by Cambodia.

According to Defense Ministry Spokesperson Colonel Thanathip Sawangsaeng, a meeting was chaired by Defense Minister General Yuthasak Sasiprapa at the Ministry’s headquarters on Wednesday in order to discuss and exchange ideas with related state agencies about security operations at the disputed Thai-Cambodian border. The meeting also assigned Thai delegates to the RBC Meeting to prepare for the arrangement of the event during 23-25 August in the northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima.

Regarding the GBC Meeting, Col Thanathip said it had not been scheduled by Cambodia, which would be the host. However, related officials have been tasked with setting an agenda for the meeting in advance, including the restoration of peace in the border area and the protection of national interests.

The Defense Minister has reportedly expressed his readiness to participate in both the RBC and the GBC Meetings, deeming them as a channel for solving the border problem in a peaceful manner.
