Thai PM promises official response as Cambodia’s wedding ceremony bid sparks cultural overlap concerns.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who also serves as Minister of Culture, stated that the Ministry of Culture is preparing an official clarification regarding reports that Cambodia included elements of Chut Thai (Thai traditional dress) in its UNESCO nomination for its traditional wedding ceremony.

The remarks came during a Cabinet meeting, where reporters asked her about Cambodia’s recent demand for the return of 20 ancient Thai artifacts and whether Thailand would issue a formal objection to the alleged inclusion of Thai cultural elements in Cambodia’s bid.

“I thought you’d ask about the Thai dress,” Paetongtarn quipped to the media before confirming that her ministry would soon release a formal statement to address the concerns.

After the meeting, she visited a display of local products from Thailand’s Deep South provinces under the theme “Taste of Southern: Local Identity from Thailand’s Border Provinces,” where she purchased two pieces of royal-patterned satin fabric. (TNA)
