Court dismisses Yingluck defamation case

BANGKOK, 27 April 2015 – The Criminal Court dismissed a defamation lawsuit filed by former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra against Democrat Party deputy spokesperson Mallika Boonmeetrakul.

Mrs Mallika criticized Ms Yingluck for having a private meeting business when she should be attending a House meeting on 8 February 2012.

According to the court’s ruling on Monday, Mrs Mallika had the right to criticize her because the ousted premier had not called the businessmen to testify and that she had yet to clarify this issue. The court also ruled that the Democrat member’s comment was not defamatory.
