Renowned Thai chef Chumpol Jangprai highlighted Thai cuisine as a significant ‘soft power’ at the Health & Wealth Expo 2023 in Bangkok, emphasizing its potential for international promotion.

Thai food, known for its deliciousness and health benefits, is one of the 11 soft powers Thailand is aiming to showcase globally, as part of a strategy led by Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin. This strategy includes foods, sports, fashion, festivals, tourism, films, books, arts, games, design, and music.

Chef Chumpol specifically pointed out the health benefits of traditional Thai herbs like Fah Talai Jone (green chiretta) and turmeric, which played a crucial role for many Thais during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Thai chef also mentioned the health properties of common ingredients like garlic, known for reducing cholesterol and boosting immunity, and spicy chili, which helps in cholesterol management and pain relief. He, however, advised moderation in their consumption to avoid potential adverse effects on the stomach and kidneys. (NNT)
