Passengers board interprovincial buses during the Songkran travel rush, as authorities maintain fare caps, add extra services, and secure fuel supplies to keep transport running smoothly.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Department of Land Transport has affirmed that bus services will be sufficient nationwide during the Songkran holiday, despite rising and volatile fuel prices that have increased operating costs. Authorities said measures are in place to ensure passengers can travel safely and at fair prices throughout the peak travel period.

Bus fares on state-operated services will remain unchanged until April 19 to help reduce travel expenses. Additional buses will be deployed to meet higher demand, while enforcement efforts are being intensified to address illegal ticket sales.

Officials are also considering adjustments to fare structures so they better align with actual fuel costs. Any changes will balance economic conditions with passenger affordability, using mechanisms that allow fares to adjust in line with diesel price movements.

To support operations, fuel supplies have been reserved for public buses in coordination with energy providers, ensuring continuous service. Authorities are also using funding measures to stabilize fares and are encouraging public transport use to improve road safety and reduce congestion during the holiday period. (NNT)
