Bangkok has ordered inspections of entertainment venues citywide, closing non-compliant businesses after the deadly beerhouse fire exposed serious fire safety failures.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has launched a citywide safety crackdown across all 50 districts, ordering district officials and police to inspect entertainment venues for fire safety and proper licensing under the Building Control Act. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt ordered the proactive campaign, warning that non-compliant businesses face immediate suspension until all violations are corrected. Local authorities have already issued temporary closure orders to three venues. In Pathum Wan district, a venue on Rama I Road was shut down for operating an unlicensed nightclub with blocked emergency exits and no fire signs. In Bangkok Noi, a venue on Charan Sanitwong Road was suspended for running unauthorized live entertainment and karaoke services, while a live music venue on Phetchaburi Road in Ratchathewi district was given seven days to halt operations after ignoring previous warnings.

The intensified inspections follow heightened public alarm over nightlife safety after a recent fire at a beerhouse in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district. The incident claimed over 30 lives and left dozens injured. Investigations revealed that blocked emergency exits and thick smoke accumulation trapped patrons inside, drawing sharp criticism over systemic safety lapses and prompting the government to heavily scrutinize venue compliance to prevent similar tragedies.
