Bangkok to host week-long commemorations honoring King Ananda Mahidol at Wat Suthat

From September 20–27, Wat Suthat Thepwararam will feature prayer ceremonies, royal exhibitions, cultural performances, and a “Garden of Light,” paying tribute to the life and legacy of His Majesty King Ananda Mahidol.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The government is organizing a week-long series of commemorative events honoring His Majesty King Ananda Mahidol from September 20 to 27 at Wat Suthat Thepwararam in Bangkok, celebrating the life, legacy, and royal contributions of the late monarch.

The ceremonies will begin on September 20 with a prayer session, an alms-offering for merit-making, and a formal wreath-laying ceremony in tribute to His Majesty. The temple grounds will feature decorative lighting displays throughout the event.


Activities during the week will include a royal exhibition on His Majesty’s life and public service, as well as cultural performances and demonstrations of traditional craftsmanship. Vendors will offer locally made goods and foods, while other highlights include a grand homage ceremony and a contest featuring traditional altar table arrangements.



Additional features include the “Garden of Light” exhibition, inspired by Buddhist teachings, and Night Museum events held inside the former residence of the 12th Supreme Patriarch, Ariyavangsagatayana (Phae Tissadevo), showcasing religious artifacts and royal memorabilia.

The public is invited to attend and engage with historical and cultural displays that honor King Ananda Mahidol, offering an experience that blends heritage, tradition, and royal reverence. (NNT)
