Bangkok Skytrains to operate until 2 a.m. on New Year’s Eve

Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS) announced special service hours on the BTS Skytrain and the Gold Line system on New Year’s Eve, with trains operating until 2 a.m.

People celebrating the New Year in Bangkok will have another safe public transportation option available for them on New Year’s Eve. The operator of BTS Skytrain said its services on New Year’s Eve will run until 2 a.m. on the Green lines, as well as the Gold line to serve those celebrating countdown events in the capital.

CEO Surapong Laoha-Unya said the company has joined hands with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and Krung Thep Thanakom to provide extra service hours on the BTS’ Sukhumvit and Silom lines, as well as the Gold Line serving riverside areas on the eve of December 31st, with the last train departing terminal stations on 2AM the following morning.

To serve event goers who may celebrate the new year at countdown events, the BTS-operated park and ride facility at Mo Chit station will also open 24 hours for this occasion.



Surapong said security staff at every station is instructed to screen passengers for hazardous items that are prohibited on the system, which include weapons, weapon replicas, sharp items, balloons, fireworks, and any items that may cause sparks and flames. Security personnel will be manning each station, as well as monitoring CCTVs across the system around the clock.

Passengers who wish to take the trains on these lines on New Year’s Eve are encouraged to check the latest operational status and schedule of the last train on The Skytrains application, or visit ticket offices at the stations. (NNT)
