BANGKOK, Thailand – Bangkok has been ranked the eighth best city in the world for 2026 by Time Out, according to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA). The ranking places Thailand’s capital second in Asia, behind Shanghai, based on evaluations from writers and contributors familiar with the character and cultural life of cities worldwide.
BMA officials said Bangkok continues to gain international attention for its diverse urban culture, including its culinary scene, arts community, and music events. The city hosted a major international art event at the end of 2025 and is preparing to host the Bangkok Art Biennale again in October 2026, adding further activity to its cultural calendar.
Bangkok’s growing profile is also linked to major entertainment and sporting events. Formula One racing has been confirmed for the city after years of discussion, while the global music festival Tomorrowland will take place in nearby Chon Buri province in December, with the Thai capital expected to serve as a central gathering point for visitors and music fans.
The ranking also placed Chiang Mai 32nd worldwide, giving Thailand two cities on the global list. According to Time Out, the top ten cities for 2026 are Melbourne, Shanghai, Edinburgh, London, New York, Cape Town, Mexico City, Bangkok, Seoul, and Tokyo. In Asia, Bangkok ranked second, while Chiang Mai also appeared among the region’s top ten cities. (NNT)
