Bangkok railway beam collapsed probing

The supporting beam fell from a connecting pillar in front of a Makro store on Chaeng Watthana road in Pak Kret district, Bangkok, at about 2am. Five workers were injured.

The Mass Rapid Transit Authority is investigating its contractor after a concrete beam of its Pink Line railway project collapsed to the ground during construction in Nonthaburi province on early Thursday morning.


The supporting beam fell from a connecting pillar in front of a Makro store on Chaeng Watthana road in Pak Kret district at about 2am.

Five workers were injured. They were identified as engineer Thanapong Kongsri, 24, worker Sa-ngob Boonsri, 34, Narongsak Borirak, 29, and two Myanmar workers named Mai, 34, and Kun, 19. They were saved.



MRTA governor Pakapong Sirikantaramas said the supporting beam collapsed after heavy rain and he ordered the contractor to prevent such an incident from recurring.

Four slightly injured workers were discharged and the other worker remained at hospital, he said. (TNA)
