BANGKOK, Thailand – Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt has announced safety and logistical plans for the 2026 Songkran Festival, with a focus on public health due to extreme weather and high fuel costs. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is preparing around 80 event sites citywide, with the main celebration at Lan Khon Mueang.
A key concern for this year’s festival is the heat index, expected to reach a dangerous 60°C. Governor Chadchart has instructed event organizers to enforce strict health protocols, including first-aid stations, sufficient drinking water, and close monitoring of vulnerable groups to prevent heat-related illnesses.

The Governor noted that rising fuel prices may reduce interprovincial travel, resulting in more residents staying in Bangkok. The BMA has ensured that essential services, including waste collection, will have adequate fuel supplies through coordination with PTT Public Company Limited.
To maintain public order, the BMA is working with the Royal Thai Police on security screenings and weapons checkpoints. Special traffic measures will be implemented in districts with a history of congestion, such as Don Mueang, Nong Khaem, and Thawi Watthana. In some areas, vehicles will be restricted from water-play zones to keep emergency medical routes clear.
The Governor also emphasized a zero-tolerance policy against the misuse of public spaces. Unauthorized collection of fees for parking or space reservations is strictly prohibited. For popular areas like Silom, the BMA encourages public transportation to ease traffic congestion.
The Governor urged the public to celebrate in accordance with Thai tradition, respect others’ rights, and prioritize safety to ensure a peaceful holiday for everyone. (NNT)
