BANGKOK, Thailand – Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt has ordered city agencies to prepare for possible heavy downpours in the capital, Aug 11, focusing on the northern and eastern districts where rainfall could reach 50 mm per hour according to the Meteorological Department’s forecast.
Speaking at the Flood Prevention System Control Center in Din Daeng, accompanied by officials from the Drainage and Sewerage Department, Chadchart said the heaviest rainfall — marked in purple on weather maps — is expected in Nong Chok, Lat Krabang, Min Buri, Khlong Sam Wa, Sai Mai, Bang Khen, Don Mueang, and Lak Si. While the exact timing of the storms remains uncertain, Thonburi-side districts are expected to see little or no rain.
The governor expressed concern for flood-prone spots in Don Mueang (around Chang Akat Uthit Road) and Bang Khen (Bang Khen roundabout). “Even if the forecast is not 100% accurate, it’s better to be prepared,” he said, urging residents in at-risk areas to stay alert.
Rainfall from May to July this year has already exceeded levels from the past three years, though it eased in recent weeks. The city will closely monitor the critical August–October period when heavy rains usually return.
